Appellate Matters
A Court Decision Isn't Always the Final Word in Legal Matters. South Florida Appellate Attorney Andrew Rier Will Guide You Through the Appeals Process to Seek a Decision in Your Favor
When you've been involved in a legal matter and a court issues a decision, you may feel like you're stuck with whatever the court handed down. That isn't always the case. In many instances you may appeal the decision.
Appeals can be made on the state or federal level. Miami lawyer Andrew Rier is an experienced appellate attorney with success in having decisions reversed or modified on the behalf of his clients. When you file an appeal, it generally must be done within a specific - often in as few as 30 or 60 days - timeframe of the final decision in your case. If, for some reason, a decision is not a final decision, you are not eligible to have your case reviewed by the appellate board.
Often, appeals are made to an overall decision - asking that the case be reviewed because there's reason to believe that the judge came to an erroneous decision. In some instances, however, an appeal is made based on a specific fact or aspect of a case. If the appellate board sees merit in your claim, your case may be heard by a higher state or federal district court and the higher courts' decisions will overturn the earlier findings.
Appeals are not your every-day legal proceeding, and not every lawyer is qualified to represent you in an appeals case.
